Bio

Gawayne is a rapper/music producer from Brooklyn, New York. Although he has only been studying music at Brooklyn College for about four years, his musical journey began long before as a child. At age five, Gawayne’s uncle bought him a Walkman. He would spend the next year taping and gluing two cassette tapes back together countless times. The battered look of the Walkman meant nothing to him. As long as he could go to sleep listening to those familiar dancehall drum patterns and melodies, life was just fine.

Although Gawayne loved music, he kept his dream of being a musician a secret while living in a traditional Jamaican household. Pursuing career paths in the arts or even in new immerging industries was seen as unrealistic. He spent most of his life pursuing careers in almost every field except music. Despite the temporary setbacks, Gawayne always had a secret stash of tens of thousands of on-the-spot rap freestyles, instrumentals, and song drafts stored on cell phones over the years to remind him of his true love: music.

Fast forward to 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Gawayne is finishing up his Music Technology BA and continuing onto his MFA in Sonic Arts. He has used these difficult times to get back on his life’s path. He recently married his girlfriend of ten years, and he and his wife are raising three boys in an unconventional, spiritual, follow your dreams, vegan household. He’s in the process of building a home recording studio and has an entirely new understanding of music and himself. Thanks for taking the time to read this bio.

I hope you enjoy Gawayne’s music.
